This website
The website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. It is built that way:
- Semantic HTML with landmarks and headings, a “Skip to content” link, and every page readable without JavaScript.
- A visible focus indicator on everything you can reach by keyboard, and touch targets of at least 48 by 48 pixels.
- Light and dark themes that follow your system, plus a theme menu; higher-contrast colors when your system asks for more contrast; and support for Windows high contrast (forced colors).
- Motion only where it helps, and none when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Text alternatives for screenshots and images; text that reflows from 320 pixels wide and zooms to 200% and beyond.
Every change to the website is tested automatically before it goes live: axe accessibility checks on every page in light, dark, high-contrast and narrow windows, a keyboard check of the navigation, a check of every page without JavaScript, and Lighthouse’s accessibility audit.
Known limitations
- The screenshots of the app are pictures of its interface, described by their text alternatives; the features page lists the same features as text.
- The changelog comes from the app’s repository as it is written there.
The app
Pingogram is built to the same standard, following Android’s and Material 3’s accessibility rules: layouts hold up at 200% font size and with TalkBack, every action in the chat list is available without swiping, keyboard focus is visible on tablets and Chromebooks, animations stop when you turn them off in Android’s settings, and high contrast gives slightly bolder text. Its design rules require a text contrast of at least 4.5:1 and touch targets of at least 48 dp in every contrast level.
